Domestic violence and/or abuse is purposeful behavior.
The abuser's pattern of abusive acts is directed at achieving compliance from
or control over the victim. This occurs in all kinds of relationships:
adult or adolescent, married or dating, living together or divorced, elderly
or young. Abuse can be physical, emotional, sexual, spiritual, or verbal
or any combination of these mentioned.
What kinds of abuse are there?

Economic - controls all
money, withholding money, being prevented from holding a job, refuses to work
and makes woman support the family, not allowed to work outside the home or
sabotages his/her attempts to work or go to schools, ruins credit rating.

Emotional - through mind
games, name calling and put-downs, isolation from family and friends.

Physical - any attacks,
whether threatened or actual physical harm, sexual assault/rape (even in
marriage), stalking, intimidation, attacking property or pet or children. |

Psychological - verbal
attacks and humiliation in private or public. attacks on a person's
vulnerabilities such as language, educational level, parental skills,
religious and cultural beliefs or physical appearance, withholds approval or
affection as punishment, forced to do degrading things, ignores feelings,
unfaithful after committing to the relationship. |

Sexual -
assault, rape
(even in marriage), denying protection against STDs, degrading verbally in a
sexual manner, sexual coercion which inflicts injury |

Spiritual - religious
beliefs used to intimidate, control and belittle a person |
